Successful High-Voltage Type Tests 245 kV

We are pleased to announce that our 245 kV, 4000 A pressurized air cables have successfully passed the high-voltage type tests. This series of tests included alternating voltage tests up to 460 kV, including TE measurements, and lightning impulse voltage tests up to 1050 kV in both polarities.

We are pleased to announce that our 245 kV pressurized air cables have successfully passed two important type tests – the AC test at 395 kV and 460 kV, including TE measurements, and the lightning impulse voltage tests up to 1050 kV in both polarities. These tests are significant milestones in the validation of our technology and demonstrate that our cables can withstand the most demanding conditions in the high-voltage sector.

AC Test at 395 kV and 460 kV

This test simulates extreme operating conditions in AC operation – the test voltage is much higher than the line-to-ground voltage in the operation of 245/sqrt(3) = 141 kV. It shows that our pressurized air cables provide excellent electrical insulation and stability, even under high overvoltage conditions – a critical criterion for safe and long-term use in modern power transmission systems.

Partial Discharge Measurement (TE Measurement)

Partial discharge measurements are used to verify whether the test specimen has been properly designed and assembled. No partial discharges were detected during the entire test series. The TE measurement thus confirmed both the design and the assembly processes.

Lightning Impulse Test at 1050 kV

Lightning impulse tests simulate very high short-duration overvoltage stresses in the network, such as those caused by a lightning strike. These tests represent the highest voltage stress for high-voltage products. A total of 15 impulses with positive and negative polarity must be tested to account for the statistical nature of these events.

The lightning impulse tests were successfully passed without any flashover. The integrity of the insulation after the impulses was confirmed by a subsequent AC test.

Conclusion

With this, the first complete test series for 245 kV has been successfully completed. This result confirms the scalability and versatility of our pressurized air cables – from medium to high-voltage applications – and brings us one step closer to broad market readiness. These high-voltage tests have impressively shown that our cables meet the regulatory requirements and have sufficient margin for operation.

These impressive test results also highlight the technical expertise and commitment of our team and mark a significant step forward towards more sustainable and efficient power transmission.

Congratulations to the entire team – together, we are shaping the future of energy infrastructure.
