GIL – Gas-Insulated Lines with pressurized air

GIL technology has been further developed to use pressurized air instead of SF6, with improved functionality

The next generation of GIL technology: Hivoduct pressurized-air cables enable high-voltage connections of up to 420 kV and 5,000 A – using pressurized air instead of SF₆, with detachable, boltless flanges, a roller system and integrated monitoring.

Benefits for GIL applications

SF₆- and PFAS-free

Pressurized air insulation. The only gas option for large-scale installations.

1-phase oder 3-phase

Versatile for any application.

Rigid aluminium enclosure

Pressure vessel, grounded, EM shielding, fire protection, protection against vandalism, protection against internal arcing.

Up to 420 kV und 5,000 A

For maximum transmission performance.

Flexible cable routing

In micro-tunnels, walkable tunnels, protective pipes and on substations.

Integrated Monitoring

Pressure, temperature, and humidity are continuously monitored.

Single-phase or three-phase encapsulated
Hivoduct pressurized air cables are available in single-phase or three-phase encapsulated versions. Pressurized air insulates the conductors within the aluminium housing.

The right design for every project
Single-phase systems offer a high degree of flexibility in cable routing. Three-phase systems require less installation space and are particularly suitable for long, predominantly straight runs.

Flexible installation options

Switchgear & industry

Flexible high-voltage connections

Walk-through tunnels

For long-distance, high-performance connections with high data transfer rates

Cable trenches

For short and medium distances and on switchgear

Microtunnel

Compact and underground

Bored tunnels

For road and river crossings

Underground protective pipes

For medium and long journeys in rural areas

Technical specifications

Hivoduct pressurized air cables are suitable for GIL applications up to 420 kV and 5,000 A. The system is designed on a project-by-project basis, taking into account voltage, current, cable routing and space constraints.

Tried and tested

Hivoduct pressurized air cables have been successfully used in pilot plants, type tests, qualification projects and commercial high-voltage applications.
