245 kV Pressurized Air Cable: Test Installation in the Tunnel at Brünig Indoor

Hivoduct presents the innovative high-voltage pressurized air cables at the entrance tunnel of the Brünig Indoor Sports Center (www.bruenigindoor.ch). This state-of-the-art technology is revolutionizing medium- and high-voltage electric power transmission by using pressurized air as the insulating medium. Unlike conventional cables that rely on solid insulation or oil, pressurized air cables use compressed air inside an aluminum tube to provide reliable and efficient electrical insulation. The result? A compact, lightweight, and environmentally friendly solution, perfectly suited for demanding applications and environments.

Our 30-meter-long installation impressively demonstrates how compact 245 kV pressurized air cables with a transmission capacity of 1600 MW can be installed in existing tunnels. With low losses and a robust metallic sheath, they are ideal for tunnel installations where space constraints, ventilation, and fire safety are critical. Pressurized air cables reduce fire risks by avoiding flammable materials and allow for easier maintenance thanks to their modular design.

The pressurized air cable installation can be viewed at any time during opening hours. Guided tours by Hivoduct are available upon request at info@hivoduct.com.
